Papua New Guinea : commemorative notes

The Bank of Papua New Guinea announced the release of K2 and K50 banknotes to commemorate the 35th Anniversay of the Bank.
The new commemorative K2 polymer note retains its existing design and security elements except for the front, which incorporates a special overprint design bearing the logo of the Bank of Papua New Guinea located between the Parliament House and the security window of the note.
The new K50 banknote retains many of the design elements of the existing K50 note, however it incorporates modified and improved advanced security features to help protect it from counterfeiting, and standardize its features that appear on the front of all notes.

La Banque nationale de Pologne envisage de publier un billet de banque de collection d’une valeur nominale de 10 PLN pour commémorer le 90ème anniversaire de l'indépendance du pays.

Le recto du billet comportera le portrait du commandant Józef Pilsudski et la façade de la Belweder Palace, le verso qu’en à lui aura l’image de l'emblème de la République de Pologne - l'Aigle Blanc, tel qu'il a été conçu en 1919, ainsi que les Monument de l'héroïque de la Légion polonaise de Kielce.

Zimbabweans get two bigger banknotes as economic collapse deepens

Not yet two months after President Robert Mugabe's government slashed 10 zeroes off the country's plunging currency, Zimbabwe has introduced new 10,000 and 20,000 Zimbabwe dollar notes as the new money goes the way of the old.
The state-controlled Herald newspaper said Monday that the two new bigger notes would be brought into circulation immediately.
This is the second set of new notes introduced since August, when the Reserve Bank, in one fell swoop, lobbed 10 zeroes off the dollar, transforming 10 billion Zimbabwe dollars into one Zimbabwe dollar. At that time, the biggest note was 500 dollars.
Zimbabwe has the world's highest inflation, estimated at about 40 million per cent. The currency has plummeted to a billionth of its value since the beginning of the year. Mugabe's bankrupt regime is known for simply printing money when it runs out of cash.
The new 20,000 Zimbabwe dollar will only buy two packets of cigarettes, but is also the equivalent of two months' pay for a police constable.
One US dollar exchanged for cash on the black market is now worth 1,000 Zimbabwe dollars, but will get 100,000 Zimbabwe dollars if exchanged by bank transfer.
The country has a chronic shortage of cash because the bank cannot print Zimbabwe dollars fast enough to keep up with inflation and because a German company that had supplied the country with bank note paper for decades, stopped dealing with Zimbabwe a few months ago under pressure from the German government.
The slide in the country's currency was checked immediately, even strengthening for a few days, after Mugabe signed a power-sharing agreement with pro-democracy leader Morgan Tsvangirai two weeks ago.
But it resumed its downward course when the two leaders failed to agree on the sharing of government ministries.

Tunisie : D�mon�tisation de billets de banque

Les billets de banque de vingt dinars type 1980, vingt dinars type 1983, dix dinars type 1983 et cinq dinars type 1983, seront démonétisés après le 31 décembre 2008, et aucune opération d'échange ne sera acceptée, rappelle lundi dans un communiqué, la Banque Centrale de Tunisie (BCT).

Ces billets ont cessé d'avoir cours légal et pouvoir libératoire le 30 juin 2003, conformément au décret n°2003-144 du 21 janvier 2003. Ils continueront à être échangés aux guichets de la Banque centrale de Tunisie jusqu'au 31 décembre 2008.

Billet de 20 dinars type 1980 : Recto : l'amphithéâtre ''El jem'' au centre ; Verso : une vue du port de Monastir avec le ''Ribat'' en arrière plan ; Couleurs dominantes : vert, bleu et brun.
Billet de 20 dinars type 1983 : Recto: une vue partielle du comptoir de Sfax de la banque centrale de Tunisie ; Verso : un hôtel et un port de plaisance ; Couleurs dominantes : bleu et vert.
Billet de 10 dinars type 1983 : Recto: vue d'une plate-forme pétrolière à droite et une vignette représentant la fabrication artisanale de l'huile d'olive ; Verso : vue du bâtiment du siège de la BCT et de l'arc de Bab El Khadra ; Couleur dominante : bleu.
Billet de 5 dinars type 1983 : Recto: paysage d'oasis avec un vieux puits tunisien ; Verso: vue d'un barrage ; Couleurs dominantes : violet et rouge.

Par ailleurs, la Banque Centrale de Tunisie attire l'attention du public sur le fait que le billet de banque de 10 dinars type 1986, n'est pas retiré de la circulation et a encore cours légal et pouvoir libératoire. Les principales caractéristiques de ce billet sont les suivantes : Recto: huilerie et forêt d'olive ; Verso: installations d'exploitation du pétrole en off-shore ; Couleurs dominantes: vert et marron.

Indon�sie : L'impression des nouveaux billets de banque est report�e

La Banque d'Indonésie a reporté l'impression des billets de banque de 2 000 Rupiah et retardé ces plans pour transformer les billets de 1 000 Rupiah en pièces de monnaie. Ces émissions étaient prévues au début de cette année ; ce retard est dû à des raisons techniques dans le processus de production, tels que l'acquisition et l'approvisionnement en papier et en matériel nécessaire.

"Il n'est pas facile d'obtenir ce type de papier," a déclaré hier le vice-gouverneur de la Banque d'Indonésie, Budi Rohadi. La Banque centrale avait prévu d'imprimer ces billets en Juillet 2008, mais devra attendre jusqu'à la fin de l'année.

La Banque d'Indonésie prévoit d'imprimer 1,2 milliard de billets de 2.000 Rp, et de frapper 1,4 milliards de nouvelles pièces.

Qatar : New bank notes from Sept 15

The Qatar Central Bank (QCB) will introduce new bank notes with special features on September 15. The new bank notes of QR1, 5, 10 and 50 denominations will have a value numeral and vertical bars facilitating the visually impaired to recognise the value.

Apart from this, QR50 currency notes will have special security features. This includes a holographic strip in distinctive shape with Qatar's emblem and the value appearing alternatively when viewed from different angles. The falcon head is also featured in the holograph

Turkmenistan's 5000 manat to equal 1 manat after denomination

1 new manat will equal 5000 old manat after denomination in Turkmenistan in 2009. The 10,000-manat banknote, the biggest one currently in circulation, will be made equal to 2 new manats.

This was reported by the head of the desk of the Central Bank of Turkmenistan in charge of monetary circulation and cash operations, Babagylych Gylyjov, in an interview with "Turkmenistan" newspaper, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat.

The exchange of old banknotes will be carried out starting from 1 January to 31 December 2009. In this period old and new banknotes will be used as a legal means of payment in all forms of cash payments. Old banknotes can be exchanged in all banks of Turkmenistan until 31 December 2010.

New banknotes (1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 manat) will carry pictures of famous Turkmen historical personalities as well as historical-architectural sights of Turkmenistan. As the Turkmen Central Bank official said, along with banknotes Turkmenistan will circulate coins worth 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 tenge. Banknotes will be minted by British De La Rue company.
